# AV over IP in the UAE: Scalable Video Distribution for 2026 and Beyond

## What is AV over IP?

AV over IP distributes video, audio, and control signals across standard IP network infrastructure. Rather than running individual HDMI or HDBaseT cables, AV over IP uses encoders to convert video into IP data packets transmitted across a managed Ethernet switch, and decoded back to video by receivers at each display.

SDVoE uses 10 Gigabit Ethernet to transmit genuinely uncompressed 4K/60Hz 4:4:4 video at zero latency — indistinguishable from a direct HDMI connection. SDVoE also enables video walls, multiview, and picture-in-picture using the processing power within the encoder/decoder hardware, replacing dedicated video processors. ## Network Requirements

- **Managed switches:** Required with IGMP v2/v3 for multicast traffic control. Consumer switches cannot manage AV over IP multicast correctly.

- **QoS:** Prioritise AV traffic over data traffic when sharing with IT infrastructure

- **Dedicated VLAN:** Best practice is to isolate AV over IP from guest or corporate data traffic

- **Use HDBaseT when:** 8 or fewer display zones, straightforward matrix routing, zero-latency 4K/60Hz with minimal network management overhead

- **Use AV over IP when:** 8+ display zones, future expansion is likely, video wall processing needed, or project is part of larger IP network infrastructure
