Advanced Transmission Line technology
The defining technical feature of PMC loudspeakers is their proprietary Advanced Transmission Line bass loading, a technology that has been central to every PMC product since the company was founded in 1991. Most in ceiling and in wall speakers use a simple sealed or ported enclosure behind the driver. Sealed enclosures limit low frequency extension and require larger drivers or more amplifier power to produce meaningful bass. Ported designs can extend bass response but often introduce port turbulence, chuffing noise, and a resonant peak that colours the sound with an unnatural emphasis at a single frequency.
ATL works differently. The driver is loaded by a carefully calculated transmission line, a precisely tuned pathway packed with absorbent damping material that allows the rear wave energy from the driver to be harnessed and released in phase with the front output. This extends usable bass response significantly below what the driver size would normally allow, while maintaining tight, controlled low frequency behaviour with no port noise and no resonant colouration. The result is a compact architectural speaker that produces bass weight and definition that sounds like it belongs in a much larger cabinet.

Each CI speaker uses a spring loaded clamp mechanism that grips the ceiling or wall board from behind when the speaker is pushed into position. There are no separate mounting brackets to preinstall, no screws to drive into the ceiling from awkward angles, and no specialised tools required.
The process is straightforward. Cut the hole using the supplied template, pull the speaker cable through, make the connection, push the speaker into the opening, and the Qikfire clamps lock it into place. For a full Atmos ceiling array of four or six height speakers, this system saves a meaningful amount of time compared to bracket mounted alternatives. On large residential projects where dozens of speakers are being installed across multiple zones, the cumulative time saving is substantial.
Stereo, surround, and immersive audio applications
