Sonos has long been the streaming audio platform of choice for residential projects across the GCC. KNX has long been the wired backbone of choice for serious home automation. Bridging the two cleanly, with reliable two-way feedback and proper pushbutton control, has historically meant compromise.
That gap has now closed. Sonos is officially supported on the 1Home Server, bringing native music control into any KNX or Loxone installation without third party scripts, IFTTT workarounds, or cloud-only voice assistant chains.
For Cache integrators working on villa and apartment projects across the UAE and wider GCC, this is a meaningful upgrade. It means a single 1Home Server can now handle lighting, blinds, HVAC, and streaming audio scenes from one configuration interface, and one set of KNX pushbuttons.
Once a Sonos account is connected to 1Home Server, every speaker already configured in the Sonos app is immediately available inside 1Home. There is no need to onboard speakers individually, recreate zones, or rebuild favourites. The two systems stay in sync, so changes made in either app are reflected in the other.
From a KNX integrator's perspective, the practical capabilities include:
Playback control mapped to KNX group addresses, so any standard KNX pushbutton can play, pause, skip, or adjust volume on any zone. Speaker grouping and ungrouping triggered from KNX, allowing a single button press to bind the lounge, kitchen, and terrace into one zone for entertaining. Direct loading of Sonos favourites and playlists from a wall switch or scene controller. Chimes and announcements triggered by KNX events, useful for doorbell tones, intercom integration, or scheduled reminders. Two-way feedback, so an LED on a pushbutton or the icon in a touch panel reflects what the speaker is actually doing.
The integration is available on 1Home Server KNX Pro, 1Home Server Loxone, and the 1Home IoT Gateway.
The launch demonstration pairs Sonos with IKEA's new Bilresa remote, one of the first wave of Matter compatible controllers from IKEA's refreshed smart home range. The point being made is simple: 1Home Server is the bridge between worlds. A wired KNX pushbutton, a wireless Matter remote, a voice command, or a tap in the Apple Home app can all drive the same Sonos zone with the same logic behind it.
For projects where the client wants the polish of KNX in fixed locations, but also wants a portable controller on the bedside table or in the kitchen drawer, this flexibility is genuinely useful. The integrator no longer has to pick a side.

Consider a four bedroom villa with KNX lighting, motorised blinds, and Sonos throughout. Before this integration, audio control typically lived in a separate ecosystem. The Sonos app handled music, the KNX system handled everything else, and the two only met in voice assistants if the client happened to use one.
With Sonos on 1Home Server, you can now build scenes like:
Morning scene: blinds raise to 60 percent, kitchen lights to warm white at 70 percent, kitchen Sonos zone starts the client's morning playlist at low volume. One pushbutton.
Cinema scene: lounge blinds close, lights dim to 10 percent, lounge Sonos pauses or mutes automatically when the projector source is selected.
Goodnight scene: all zones pause, all lights off, alarm armed. One press at the master bedroom entrance.
These are scenes that previously required either a third party automation server, custom Node-RED logic, or a Sonos voice assistant integration that depended on the cloud. They are now native to the 1Home Server.
The integration uses the official Sonos cloud API, so the 1Home Server and the Sonos speakers both need internet access. All Sonos S2 generation speakers are supported, which covers the current Sonos range as well as the IKEA SYMFONISK products.
For Cache partners planning a project around this, the workflow is straightforward:
Specify the 1Home Server KNX Pro alongside your KNX wiring schedule.
Confirm the Sonos zones and speaker models with the client during design.
On commissioning, link the Sonos account once. Every speaker, favourite, and playlist appears automatically.
Map the Sonos actions to KNX group addresses in the 1Home dashboard. No ETS license required for this step.
