What is SDVoE — and why does it matter?

SDVoE (Software Defined Video over Ethernet) is an open standard developed by the SDVoE Alliance for transporting uncompressed 4K video, audio, USB and control over a standard 10 Gigabit Ethernet infrastructure. Unlike compressed IP solutions, SDVoE delivers pixel-perfect 4K/60 4:4:4 with zero perceivable latency — making it the industry reference for mission-critical AV.

For a Dubai integrator, SDVoE means a single 10G network switch replaces a traditional HDMI matrix. You get unlimited scaling (8x8, 16x16, 64x64, 256x256 — same hardware, just add endpoints), video wall support, multiview, KVM, and genlocked switching that a compressed system simply cannot match.

Cache is the authorised CYP distributor for the UAE. The CYP SDV range is SDVoE Alliance certified and interoperable with other SDVoE-compliant endpoints — so you’re never locked into one vendor.

SDVoE vs. the alternatives

SDVoE 10G
Uncompressed 4K/60 4:4:4. Zero latency. Best image quality. Broadcast and medical grade.
1G IP (JPEG2000)
Lightly compressed. ~1 frame latency. Runs on gigabit network — cheaper cabling. Ideal for corporate, retail, digital signage.
HDBaseT
Point-to-point over Cat6. No networking flexibility. Good for fixed 4K extension up to 100m.

Need the 1G IP tier instead? See our IP-7000 1G AV over IP range.

Where SDVoE wins in the UAE

If the installation needs frame-accurate switching, uncompromised 4K quality or KVM at distance, this is the technology to specify.

Broadcast & Control Rooms

Genlocked uncompressed switching for studios, master control, OB vans and production galleries. Zero-latency KVM at operator positions.

Command & Control / SOCs

Security Operations Centres, traffic rooms and NOCs where any operator must instantly pull any source onto any display — including multiview and video walls.

Medical Imaging & Simulation

Operating theatres, diagnostic suites, simulation labs and university teaching spaces where 4:4:4 chroma sampling and colour accuracy matter.

Post-Production Suites

Colour grading, VFX and finishing rooms where any compression artefact is unacceptable and the editor needs KVM access to workstations in the machine room.

High-End Residential / Yacht

Yachts and private estates where the client wants every source available on every screen, no visible latency, and full future-proof scalability.

Corporate Boardrooms / Briefing Centres

Executive briefing centres where presenter workstations sit in a machine room and the user experience has to feel like a direct HDMI connection.

CYP — 30 years of pro AV, now stocked in the UAE

CYP is a UK-designed, globally specified pro AV brand built around one promise: signal management products that integrators can actually rely on. They’re a founding-generation SDVoE Alliance member and have been shipping HDMI, HDBaseT and AV-over-IP product into broadcast, education, corporate and residential projects since before 4K was a buzzword.

Cache is the authorised CYP distributor for the United Arab Emirates. That means local stock, trade pricing, warranty support through Cache Dubai, and direct engineering backup on any SDVoE project — no waiting on email threads to Taiwan.

SDVoE questions Dubai integrators actually ask

Straight answers. No vendor marketing spin.

What’s the real-world difference between SDVoE 10G and the CYP IP-7000 1G range?
SDVoE is uncompressed. Every pixel of every frame arrives at the receiver exactly as the source sent it, at the same moment, with no compression artefacts and no frame-of-latency. IP-7000 is a high-quality 1G IP system that lightly compresses the signal to fit inside a gigabit network — excellent for corporate, retail, signage and even most residential, but not acceptable for broadcast or medical imaging where any latency or compression is a dealbreaker. If you need the 1G tier, see our IP-7000 range.
Do I need a special network switch for SDVoE?
Yes. SDVoE uses a standard off-the-shelf 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch, but it needs to support IGMP snooping, jumbo frames and have enough non-blocking backplane to handle the full endpoint count. Cache specifies known-good SDVoE-compatible switch models on every project and will give you a bill of materials that covers switch, cabling and endpoints as a single system.
Is CYP’s SDVoE interoperable with other SDVoE brands?
Yes. SDVoE is an open standard governed by the SDVoE Alliance. CYP endpoints are certified and will talk to other Alliance-compliant endpoints at the stream level. In practice, however, we strongly recommend deploying a single-vendor endpoint stack so the master controller (SDV-CS8) can manage routing, video wall and KVM modes consistently.
How far can SDVoE run over copper vs. fibre?
Over Cat6A copper you get the standard 10GBASE-T limit of 100 m endpoint-to-switch. For anything beyond that — and for anywhere you’re worried about EMI, ground loops or building expansion joints — use the SDV-FTRX-U fibre transceiver. Multi-mode OM3/OM4 will comfortably cover most UAE campus and tower distribution needs.
Can I mix SDVoE with HDBaseT or HDMI matrix gear on the same project?
Absolutely, and in most real projects that’s exactly what happens: SDVoE for the critical zones, HDBaseT or a traditional HDMI matrix for the ancillary rooms. CYP’s full HDBaseT and HDMI matrix range is available from Cache alongside SDV — see our HDMI matrix range and HDMI extender range.
What’s stock and lead time like in the UAE?
Cache carries SDV-C2-TX, SDV-C2-RX and SDV-CS8 controller in UAE stock for immediate dispatch on standard system sizes. Fibre transceivers and large endpoint counts are usually air-freighted direct from CYP within 5–7 working days. Ping us on WhatsApp with a shopping list and we’ll confirm live stock within the hour.
