For integrators building serious home cinema, the loudspeaker is the easy thing to get wrong. Clients want cinematic scale and clarity. Architects and designers want hardware that hides. The PMC Ci range gives you both. It takes PMC's studio pedigree and packages it into a custom install format that mounts in-wall or on-wall and disappears behind a bezel-less grille.
Here is what you need to know to specify it with confidence.
PMC has been building monitors for the world's most demanding studios since 1991. Its speakers remain the reference at BBC Maida Vale, and the brand is trusted by Dolby, Netflix, Sony, Apple and Warner Bros for scoring, dialogue editing and mixing. PMC is also a CEDIA member and sits on the RP22 committee shaping custom install standards.
The Ci range carries that same engineering into the home. When you can tell a client their cinema runs the same acoustic DNA used to master the films they are watching, the conversation changes. You are no longer selling a speaker. You are selling the source of truth.
The Ci line is designed for immersive formats, with a model for every position in the room.
The smaller models, the Ci30, Ci45 and Ci65, handle surround and height duties with the headroom and dispersion needed for convincing overhead and side effects. The Ci90 Slim suits tight architectural runs where depth is at a premium. The Ci140 is the flagship, capable of full LCR work in a private cinema, and the Ci140 sub adds dedicated low end where the room demands it.
The headline for installers: every model can be mounted in-wall or on-wall, thanks to Qikfire fittings, the bezel-less grille and a stylish cabinet sleeve. You get reference performance with a finish that satisfies the most exacting interior brief.
Two things separate Ci from the rest of the in-wall market.
The first is ATL, PMC's Advanced Transmission Line. Instead of a simple sealed or ported box, ATL loads the driver through a long, heavily damped tunnel that delivers deep, fast, controlled bass from a slim cabinet. The Ci140 reaches 32Hz at the -3dB point and extends to 29Hz, a figure most in-wall speakers cannot approach. That means genuine low-end impact without filling the room with subwoofers.
The second is n-compass directivity. The Ci140's in-house 50mm PMC55 dome reproduces the critical vocal band as a single, unbroken source, and n-compass technology controls how that sound disperses across the room. The result is consistent tonal balance from every seat, whether the speaker is installed horizontally or vertically. Dialogue stays locked and intelligible across the whole audience, not just the centre chair.
Add wide, even directivity and strong off-axis performance, and you have speakers that fill multi-row cinemas and open-plan media rooms without the tonal drop-off that cheaper designs suffer at the edges of the room.
